About the Tower
The Tangled Tower in Háj is a self-built structure, constructed by builder Peter Šimkanin without any construction companies or heavy machinery. Construction began in 2011 and took 12 years, and the builder put in 3,500 hours of work. It took 660 mixer loads of concrete, about 150 tons of stone, 3 tons of timber and 4 tons of slate roof tiles. All the stones come from the building site and its immediate surroundings. Inside the tower, 44 steps lead to two rooms with a total floor area of 30 m². Next to the tower is a bathroom, partly dug into the bedrock, built in the shape of a hobbit house. The tower is 18 metres tall, with a beautiful view of the village of Háj and Turna Castle.
The builder never intended to rent out the tower or use it commercially. It was a personal challenge, a long-term physical activity, a test of endurance and the fulfilment of a romantic dream. After it was finished, however, the positive response from the public led him to offer accommodation and short-term rental of the property.
The tower has two fantasy-themed escape room games (ESCAPE ROOM).
